Low Energy House
As professional photographers of the vast polar-regions, it was only natural that our Clients would choose to build their home in the dramatic setting of the far north of Scotland. The house, located on the the level portion of an otherwise sloping site on the south bank of the Dornoch Firth, just outside the settlement of Kincardine, combines a traditional compact form with Passivhaus design and construction concepts, to create an extremely energy efficient and low maintenance dwelling.
The aesthetic is defined by the traditional palette of materials and forms offset by the crispness of the large triple glazed windows, with the linear arrangement of the house is accentuated by linking the garage, entrance porch, dwelling and snug on a roughly east west orientation. The construction utilises a high performance and airtight closed panel timber frame with blown fibre insulation.
