Refurbishment & Extension
The rambling Victorian villa and annex has been modernised extensively and extended to improve the quality and usable area of the accommodation and thermal performance of the existing fabric. The existing kitchen, dining and sunroom has been combined to form an open-plan cooking, eating and family area, which connects to the front sitting room by glazed double doors. The stair has also been replaced to connect to the refurbished and re-insulated upper floor accommodation and is contained within own stairwell with top lighting.
Externally, the new stairwell and open plan area manifest as two large zinc clad forms cascading down the rear of the existing roof as a dramatic contrast to the traditional form of the property. Woodfibre insulation based construction systems have been used to the refurbished and new build areas to eliminate thermal bridges and manage moisture.
