Our Client Mairi Campbell, runs musical retreats from the family cottage situated towards the north end of the Isle of Lismore in the Firth of Lorne. The studio has been built as a purpose built music space for practice and performance and is sensitively situated in the rear garden of the cottage and linked with the rear of the cottage via a covered walk-way. Its simple form, with a projecting roof over the end terrace, employs the same rugged appeal as the existing cottage.
The larch and metal cladding and painted metal roof finish lend a more contemporary aesthetic however. Internally, the simple space is 9 m long by 5.5 m wide and is heated by a wood burning stove. Woodfibre insulation and triple glazing has been used to ensure a robust and acoustically sound fabric. The metal has not yet been painted in the photographs.
