Transforming Timber Project

The Client - Professor Robert Hairstans,The founding Director of the Centre for Advanced Timber Technologies (CATT) at NMITE - has put his own research into practice and has created his own “living lab”. The 78sqm extension was designed as a panelised systems by ECOsystems Technologies and built at Built Environment - Smarter Transformation. Professor Robert Hairstans intends on measuring and monitoring the impact of the technical solutions deployed in the extension of his 1950s bungalow.

The cross laminated timber panels and glue laminated beams were manufactured using the UK’s only Vacuum Press, located at the BE-ST Campus, Hamilton, near Glasgow. The panels were assembled within the Innovation Factory as well as the installation of windows, skylights and zinc cladding. The insulated floor slab slab was cast in-situ with ECOsystem Technologies then installing the extension over two days using a Hi-Ab crane. Projects - Two Storey House Extension — Transforming Timber
